Last year I took an old Nikon film SLR and started walking on Pico, inspired by my photography friend Derek E., who did the same thing on Wilshire. It took me couple of times to not look at the back to find out how the picture turned out — no screen on film SLR’s… Walking on Pico was great fun. I took photos of things that I did not expected, I took of photos of things that I expected, I also took photo of things that were not worth the photograph. With film photography, you don’t know after it all has been developed.
Films used
During this trip, I also experimented with different types of films. Kodak Tri-X 400 and 3200, as well as Ilford XP2, which is developed using the (C-41) color development process. The result is that color scanners can use ICE (to filter out dust), something that is not possible on true black&white film. I will stick with Tri-X, as XP2 photos look too much color photographs that are converted to black&white.
Cameras used
I started with a Nikon FG (http://camera-wiki.org/wiki/Nikon_FG). Good starter camera, but wanted a bit more advanced, such us a shorter shutter speed. Ended up with a Nikon FE2 (http://camera-wiki.org/wiki/Nikon_FE2), which does have a nice short shutterspeed of 1/4000s.
Photos
Without much further ado — a small selection of my photos, all in random order. Did you know there is a mosaic of the Eiffel Tower in Los Angeles? Guess what street it is on:)
